The first ascent of the route “Giannis Torelli - Dyskoloi kairoi” (VIII+ A2, 300m) was realized on 29-30/9/2022 by A. Thanopoulos - A. Grapsas with one bivouac.
The first meters of the route were opened in 2000 by A. Graphsa and N. Sakellariou, but the attempt was abandoned. The route was continued in 2008, this time by A. Grapsas together with Giannis Torelli, who also defined its style. After three daily attempts that year, they reached the characteristic ledge, but there was no continuation until 2022, when the event of the loss of G. Torelli occurred. It is perhaps one of the most difficult and serious routes of the crag and its name is a tribute to the so important and ahead of his time climber Giannis Torelli, who as early as 2008 had perhaps prophetically inspired the name that means “Difficult Times”. The dual nature of the routes name came from the desire for G. Torelli’s name to refer to his work, but also vice versa, as the route is in a way a symbolic and representative “painting” of Giannis.
The line starts to the left of “Babis Tsoupras” and to the right of the characteristic black water line located to the right of “Diavase me” and meanders between plates, dihedrals and negatives. The last pitch was completed by A. Thanopoulos without deviating from the rest of the style of the line. The end of the route intersects the characteristic crack of the 7th pitch of the “Hippocampus” and ends a few meters below the first bold of the 8th pitch of the same route. The continuation to the top is made by the combination of “Hippocampus” and “Babis Tsoupras”.
The nature of the route is dominated by exposure and technical difficulty as the permanent bolds are the absolutely necessary, representative of the modest opening style adopted by G. Torrelli. For the repetition of the routes, a full line of nuts and friends (and a Camalot #6 for the 5th pitch), slings, talons and hooks.
The descent after the 8th pitch is possible from the “Hippocampus” belays. In the characteristic ledge of “Diavase me” there is a carry-mat for bivouac.
