ELOT 743 (ISO 843) transcription

Greek text Transcription

Notes:
  • The ELOT 743 standard (which is identical to the international standard ISO 843), describes two types of conversion of greek words into latin script, transliteration and transcription. Each application must choose one of the two types to use, without mixing them. Transliteration is a reversible letter-by-letter conversion and is used mainly in texts that need to be restored to their original form. Transcription is an irreversible, homophonic conversion and is used where the foreign text needs to reproduce the sound of greek words. The greek government, for the rendering of names, road signs, official documents (passports, identity cards, certificates), uses transcription.
  • This application executes the transcription code for which it uses Javascript with a GNU/GPL license that runs locally on your computer and the text you enter is not sent to any remote system, so it is safe to use even for sensitive data.
