Meteora - Agio Pnevma

Quod erat demonstrandum

Rock, Traditional

The route “Quod erat demonstrandum” (VIII+ A2, 175m) was established on 1/10/1995 by J. Triebel - U. Rossler.

This is a legendary route, without a known repetition to date, which is located at the most impressive tower of Meteora, the Agio Pnevma (Holy Spirit), next to another legendary route, the “Corner of madness”.

The line follows the characteristic ridge (almost geometric edge), to the left of the dihedral of the “Corner of madness”. It consists of 6 demanding pitches of high difficulty, with many aided climbing passages (A1 and A2). Although it is well secured with bolts and hangers, it seems that the high difficulty combined with the requirement for aided climbing, has prevented its repetition, without this meaning that attempts have not been made, at least on the first pitches.

Note: The name of the route comes from the Latin rendering of the ancient Greek “ὅπερ ἔδει δεῖξαι” which means “that which had to be proven” and is still used today at the end of mathematical proofs to indicate the completion of the solution. Usually, in greek, the abbreviation “ΟΕΔ” is used, while in the rest of the world, “QED” is used.
