Kopsi tou Lapatou

Rock, Traditional

The first ascent of the route “Kopsi tou Lapatou” (VI-, 550m) was realized on 20/9/1992 by K. Tzovaras - D. Kallos.

The line follows the northern ridge of Lapatos, but due to the loose rock parts at the base, it starts a bit to the left, at the north-eastern crag, and then, a bit higher, it continues on the ridge. From that point and on, the line moves sometimes on the right and sometimes on the left side of the ridge. The rating is steadily III, except for one pitch in between (VI-) where a wall found on the arête needs to be passed.

In order to climb the route, several friends and some pitons are necessary, mostly for the belays with no elements of protection.

Although the rock is rather loose, this ascent offers a unique view of the canyon of Aoos river.
