The summit of Ypapanti (1766m) forms the north side of the Makrolakkos valley, west of the city of Naousa, and as such is one of the steepest peaks of Vermio. Its name comes from the historic monastery of Exo Ypapanti at 1088m in the middle of the southeast aspect.
On the peak of Ypapanti there are two (2) recorded routes, both historic traditional rock climbs with a height of 130m to 180m and difficulties up to IV on an unknown wall and ridge of southeast aspect.
Access
The approach to Ypapanti is achieved from the Agios Nikolaos military base at the foot of Makrolakkos valley, about 3km from the center of Naousa. From there, following the marked trail, one can reach the monastery of Exo Ypapanti in about 2hrs; above which the wall is most likely situated.
Climbing history
The summit of Ypapanti was the objective of the rope-team of brothers I. and K. Apostolidis along with Sp. Stoumpos in 1959, who completed the first traditional rock climb on the massif with passages of difficulty up to V. In 1966 the “Southeast ridge” (IV, 180m) was also climbed by I. Pantoulas - O. Ioannidis.
