Petra Perachoras (906m) is an impressive rocky summit on the western end of the Pintiza (1032m) massif, south of Perachora, and is visible as far as Corinth. The monolithic summit of mountainous limestone offers a unique contrast against the low elevation Mediterranean terrain, and as a result was quickly utilized by climbers.
At Petra Perachoras there are 57 sport climbing routes with difficulties ranging from 5b to 8b and a length up to 40m, as well as two (2) completed multi-pitch traditional routes graded V to VI and of a maximum length of 180m. The routes are found across five (5) sectors, with the rock quality being better at the sport climbing sectors compared to the main headwall, while the western orientation means three of the sectors are in the shade until 14:00, and one is after. Ideal climbing conditions are usually found during Spring and Autumn, but due to the elevation climbing is possible during the summer.
Access
Access to Petra Perachoras is possible from the village of Pisia which we approach via the rural road of Perachora - Schinos. Reaching Pisia we take a right and then a left onto a good dirt road which we follow for 1.2Km to the crag’s information sign from where we continue onto an ascending dirt road for 300m, reaching the parking area. For the crag itself we must follow a marked trail heading southwest for about 10 minutes.
Climbing history
The formation of Petra Perachoras quickly attracted the attention of climbers with the first climbs being undertaken by EOS Athinon in 1948. Although climbing activity may have continued in between, the first recorded route was “Terzi - Kymouri” (V, 180m) on the northwest headwall in 1971.
The second line was established in 2019 with the traditional route “The Dukes of Hazzard” (VI, 70m) by D. Rasidakis and N. Floros, on the west headwall. At the same time, the access path was cleared with the help of the Torelli familiy, while the first routes were equipped by D. Oikonomou, G. Torelli, and N. Floros, at the “Anilio” sector. The fire of 2021 did not allow N. Floros to visit until 2023, when he did so and established another four (4) routes.
In 2025, and as part of a program funded by Loutraki Municipality, around 50 new sport climbs were equipped. The modern crag of Petra Perachoras has been developed around an imposing limestone monolith with three sectors, as well as a final sector on the west wall.
