Falakro - Kartalka

The Kartalka crag is located at the western end of the large horseshoe-shaped gorge of Falakro.

Access to the routes is from the entrance to the ski center parking lot, from where we ascend in a southwesterly direction and after the ridge, we descend the steep slope, having the crag on our left, until we reach its base.

The general orientation of the crag is east, but for reasons of better grouping of the routes, it is divided into three individual crags or sectors:

• The SE. Face or Southern Sector, to which the routes from “Totem” to “Kartalka ridge” belong. It is also the most easily accessible, it has only rock routes and has the smallest route lengths. To access, from the parking lot of the ski center we ascend in a southwesterly direction and after reaching the ridge, we descend the steep slope, having the crag on our left.
• The E. Face or Central Sector, which includes the routes from the “Crystal wall” to the “Butterfly ridge”. Access is the same as the SE. Face, it just requires more descent, but it could also be the same as the NE. Face.
• The NE. Face or Northern Sector, which includes the routes from "Val Veny" and further to the right. To access it, from the ski resort parking lot we ascend to the Koryfi Tou Faragiou, rappel between the top of Kartalka and the Koryfi Tou Faragiou and then descend traversing under the rocks, with the crag on our right.

The above routes referred to as “boundaries” of the sectors are indicative since at any time one can be added next to them. However, the routes “Kartalka ridge” and “Butterfly ridge” move on two characteristic ridges which in any case constitute natural boundaries of separation. In general, however, the sectors are continuous and one can move from one to the other by walking at the base of the rock.

In addition to the above sectors, the crag is in some references divided into Kartalka I, Kartalka II and Kartalka III. These names correspond to the three peaks that make up Kartalka, which as they fall into the gorge create three pillars where the routes are lying.
